Employer Testimonials

“My participation has allowed me to gain a qualification to support my current role. My learning has been more than just professional tools, I have learnt things about myself and skills to use in all areas of my life.”
Dave Riley – Contracts Manager – UK Gas
-
“The support from the Skillwise team has been fantastic. I have learnt many new strategies and techniques to use in the business. I like the fact that the course is tailored around the needs of the business so it just not just theory, but real practical skills that can be put immediately into practice. The course has helped me to better understand my learning and leadership styles and how to use these effectively within my team. All the team have clear objectives and plans in place which has helped us operationally as well as improving staff morale.”
Sarah Rhodes – Marketing Services Director – The Best of Walsall
-
“The course so far has helped me understand more about leadership and management, in particular the models and their uses. It has given me confidence, by learning more, to deliver as a manager in the business.”
Melissa Fazackerley – SHEQ Manager – Longworth UK

“We are 9 months into our partnership with Skillwise and they have been fantastic from the get-go. In our 10 years of trading, we have worked with a handful of training providers to provide us with our apprentices, and our ratio of success from them has been very low. Skillwise is present on-site whenever we need them to help support with not only in positive situations but also helping us with difficult situations that businesses encounter. Ian and his team have done a great job in matching the candidates to our company in terms of our culture and what we need from individuals in our team, as a recruitment business we are able to identify the high quality of work they have conducted for us.”
Reiss Johnson — Managing Director- NRS

“Business and Industry as a whole have seen significant changes in their demands and Widney needed to upskill its management team to support these changes, as well as protect for the future. Some of my team hadn’t been on a development/training programme for over 30 years. Ian and his team made the whole process simple and streamlined, putting the team at ease. The mixture of industries on the course allowed interaction with other leaders and they were able to share stories that helped develop their knowledge further and share experiences. The course has allowed my team to both look at their personal leadership style as well as the varying requirements of their team and as a whole allowed a more rounded dynamic approach to leadership We have now had 11 of my team enrol, with the first cohort having passed with flying colours and distinctions realised in the team. The whole experience has seen the Manufacturing Management Team move up a gear and a more professional levelled approach to leadership and we are starting to see this through their teams. I'm looking forward to finishing this level and moving onto to further development with some of my team already asking when they can start the next level.”
Russell Lewis - Manufacturing and Health & Safety Manager - Widney Manufacturing

”Working with Skillwise has opened our eyes to the benefits of investing in our people through training and development . The morale and productivity of our team has improved significantly since we started working together."
Stuart Fox - Director - Energy Bureau

"We have a great relationship with Skillwise and I'm very impressed with the service they provide to develop our people. From day one of the Leadership & Management training, the team started to develop a range of team leading skills and gain the comprehensive knowledge required by a team leader. The training provides specialist knowledge that enables the team to advance their careers which in turn is helping the business to ‘grow’ its own talent and build a dedicated workforce for the future. We are in the process of starting another Leadership & Management cohort, therefore Skillwise has become our learning provider of choice for Leadership & Management training."
Keeley Smith - HR Manager - Skiddle

As the plant manager, it is important to me to ensure my team has the relevant support and training in place to ensure they can fully perform their roles within the business. A number of training providers were looked at however Skillwise's offer ticked all of the boxes and covered all of those areas we identified as relevant to our needs as a business making the decision to go with them an easy one to make. The approach from Skillwise from day one has been great. From the first meet and greet meetings to the course starting and the support throughout has been really good. The team at Skillwise are very professional, it was clearly explained how the course would be laid out, what the content of the course would entail, how this would align with our business needs and how it would be delivered. Due to the seasonality of our business and due to a number of large scale projects taking place we tasked Skillwise with tailoring the course to fit around this so as not to impact too heavily on the Managers and supervisors day to day roles during these busy periods. Skillwise delivered on this and set the course out as such while also managing the expectations of everyone involved. The course itself is challenging, which was expected given the level it is pitched. However, Debbie and the team have been great at offering support and advice to those who have needed it and have been really great at keeping everyone, focused, driven and on track to achieve submission dates. We have 13 learners on this course in total all in positions of responsibility with varying degrees or experience of managing people and teams however the team at Skillwise have tailored the course to everyone’s individual needs and they understand everyone’s individual circumstances and current workloads. It has been this personable and understanding approach from Skillwise that has impressed us the most, it has shown us they care about the learners and have a genuine interest in the individual's development. Regular reviews are held with the team and Skillwise, this keeps progress on track and feedback prompt. In general, the feedback from my team is that the course can be intense at times and challenging but they find the taught sessions interesting and engaging, the assignments help them focus on self-awareness and really hone in on how this course is relevant to their current roles. All of them feel they are now using some of the tools and techniques learnt within the course in their day-to-day roles, which is exactly what everyone wanted from this.

“When I first began my apprenticeship, I was nervous about going back into learning after so long but with the help and encouragement from my tutor Sean, I have grown in confidence and I am really enjoying being back in education! It has helped me develop new skills in my job role as a manager, and I have been able to apply some of my learnings to my work and even implement new policies and procedures to help the business as a whole. The experience with Skillwise has been seamless, using the system is very easy and the way the course is applied to my existing role has helped alleviate any worries I had about finding time to do the work, as it enhances my working life rather than inhibiting it. The course content that I have engaged with so far has been really interesting, and I look forward to seeing what the rest of my modules will be. If you are having reservations about starting an apprenticeship, I assure you that those worries are baseless, my tutor and Skillwise have been nothing but helpful, ensuring that I get the best out of the course for me as a leader and as an individual.”

“Skillwise made the whole process very simple from sign up to end, and provided support throughout. The training was enjoyable, but more importantly relevant and practical to our business. The training was structured and informative for learners from various different levels and allowed myself to work alongside learners from other employment sectors, allowing us to learn from each other’s experience’s. Special mention to Ian, Anne, Kate and James for there ongoing support throughout the whole process. I feel our business has started to see the benefits from putting a number of learners through this leadership program.”

“With the help of Skillwise I have been paired up with a very good company. I have skills in photo editing and designing which has fitted right in with my role. I have thoroughly enjoyed my course so far as it put it into perspective what my strengths and weaknesses are. I have taken on tips and ways of time managing myself which has helped me immensely. I have made a lot of progress already in the Marketing department, I have been assigned a lot of projects to complete such as, redesigning and updating a brochure, I have been asked to design the company newsletter as well as now I’m working on creating a leaflet which will go out to the external sales representatives to hand out to merchants and customers, advertising the company’s products. I have shown determination and strong work ethic. I’m also part of the company’s Sustainability project they have started. Overall, I’ve been having so much fun learning new things and learning how companies work and what my course entitles."

“Natasha has made the lessons comfortable and enjoyable. The course itself has been great, I’ve learnt plenty of new things. I'm excited to take these away and apply them to my role”

"The Leadership and Management course has most certainly challenged me and to be recognised for my hard work is refreshing. Although I have been in a managerial position for over 6 years, this is the first Management training I have undertaken. The skills and knowledge I have learnt on the course have not only helped me to improve on my weaknesses I identified when completing my SWOT at the beginning of the course but has also helped me to be a better leader, enabling me to support and manage my team more effectively, which has most definitely increased productivity in the workplace. Throughout the course my tutor Steve has consistently guided me and pushed me to become a better learner, with a noticeable improvement in my writing skills, helping me to communicate more effectively in all aspects of my life."

During my months in the program, I feel it has been very helpful with my personal progression. This program is giving me the tools I need to become the best manager I can be. Laura has given me great support and her weekly progress calls allow me to take guidance when needed meaning I challenge my thoughts and processes before making decisions. Laura has also helped me progress using the planned discussions to better evidence my understanding of various parts of the course material.

My name is Pamela Harrison I have worked with Shalam Packaging for 23 years, for the past 6 years at Shalam Packaging my job role has been a shift manager, overlooking the day-to-day running of the production floor. What my normal day at work looks like: • Provide clear leadership. • Managing and organising labour through headcount forecasting. • Maximise plant output, quality and efficiency whilst maintaining site safety and BRC hygiene standards. • Provide information and reports on Thermoforming KPIs. • Ensure all employees conform to all health and safety requirements and promote and maintain safe working practices. • Promote continuous improvement and best practices within the department. • Motivate and encourage staff in a consistent manner. • Identify and drive training requirements for team members. Since becoming a shift manager, I have self-taught myself all the above so being able to do the apprenticeship in Leadership and Management has helped me a lot. Since the start of the apprenticeship I have learnt a lot about Safeguarding, British values, Time management, Self-awareness, Emotional intelligence, Different forms of communication, Conflict management, Stakeholder relationships, Leading, coaching and managing people, Presentation and appraisal skills, managing data and reports, all of these I have found extremely useful in my job role and I am starting to see the benefits as I have adapted these skills into my day to day work. I would like to say I have learnt and taken in a lot more at the face-to-face taught sessions, Debbie my trainer is excellent at what she does when coaching these taught sessions, she has always got time to explain things in more detail if you are unsure. I will admit it has been hard, as I have had to sit my functional Skill Math and English alongside doing the course work and the day-to-day running of my job, but I will look back at this in the future and think this has been well worth the effort and dedication I have put in as I am now more confident and experienced at my job. Thank you for this opportunity.
Pamela Harrison - Shift Manager - Shalam Packaging
